The Next Time
The sky was overcast the last time I saw you
but blue sky was breaking above the church steeple
and people were carrying fear and umbrellas around
and your eyes were offering all that was missing
and your lips were moving, but I wasn't listening
all I could do was just stand there and not make a sound
The next time I see you there...I will not forget
The rain that came down, but somehow I never got wet
The next time I see you there...strong is my resolve
I'll take you inside and I'll dry you and show you I care
The next time I see you there
and since then I've seen greyer days come and go
but never a blue like the hole in the sky that day
why couldn't I say something so simple to say
but I won't feel sorry for myself
and if it is raining, I'll leave my umbrella at home
I feel so alone, but I'll find you someday
